The Power of Zero

What is so important about Zero anyways?

Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Nothing. Rock Bottom.

I was recently at a program called the Entrepreneur Development Program where we talked about how important it is for business owners as well as people as individuals to really think about and be tuned in to zero.

Let me give you an example: If you were going to take out an ad campaign, and you wanted to spend $10K, $50K or $100K, what your main, primary focus and objective should be is how to drive that $50K spend down to zero. The way you do that is by making sure that you understand things like how many more clients you need to sell or how many more customers you need to acquire so you can make that advertising cost zero.

If you make that advertising cost zero, you can do it over and over and over again and create something I like to call your advertising budget.

Now, that only happens if you understand your numbers extremely well.

Just to be clear, you don’t start out with $50K. What you would do is spend $200, $500, maybe even $1,000 and make sure you can drive that to zero first, and then you can start to scale it up. The closer you get to zero, or even below zero you can go, the better off it will be for you.

It’s not just if you want to spend $50K online. In fact, as an entrepreneur, there are a lot of opportunities for you to buy things as close to zero as possible. Are you buying the newest, latest, greatest? Are you buying things used? Are you buying things that allow you to bring your price a lot closer to zero?

Now that I have this idea of the power of zero moving around in my mind, I can start to think, how do I drive everything I do closer to zero.

I’ll give you a very basic example: Like buying pizza. I recently went to buy a pizza at a pizza place and I went into the store and they told me the pizza was going to be like $35 for this pizza. Really premium pizza, right? So while I was in line, I just thought about that power of zero and I thought, “you know what I should probably do, I should look up if I can find a coupon online.” Sure enough, I found a $15 dollar off coupon for the pizza that I just ordered.

Now, ordinarily I might not have looked up that coupon. You might even say, $15 dollars? What’s so important about $15 dollars? But think about that. Every time you have a meal, every time you purchase a product, you could be saving money.

In fact, every time I go on to a website and it says, do you have a promo code, I immediately look online to see if I can find a promo code for even just free shipping. That is a zero. Or 20% off, that is getting you closer to zero.

Everything you do in your business, should be constantly driving it to zero. For instance, if you have a new hire, you have to figure out how much income and work they have to produce to drive their cost down to zero. The more things like that that you find, the closer your expenses will be driving down to zero, and the more money you will be able to make because you are using that power of zero.

So whether you are buying real estate, you own a business, or your just shopping and getting pizza, you can drive down to the power of zero and you can use that to your advantage. And that is the importance of zero.

I want to know, what are some things that you have done to use the power of zero in your business?
